The $16.5 million project consists of 50 live/ work units added over and the existing 38,000 square-foot commercial space of the Kaplan Building.  A reinforced concrete slab was place on the roof of the existing Kaplan Building and used as a transfer slab for the 3-story, wood-framed residential addition.  Seismic upgrades in the Kaplan building included the addition of steel braced frames.
